About the Scholarship

The Descendants Truth & Reconciliation Foundation (DTRF) has established the Educational Advancement Program to provide financial support for Descendants pursuing post‑secondary education. Administered by the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), this program offers annual, need‑based scholarships of up to $10,000 to help cover college expenses.

Scholarship funds are distributed in two installments, one during fall 2026 and the second during spring 2027 and may only be applied toward verified tuition and standard academic fees.

This initiative is part of DTRF’s broader commitment to:

• Supporting Descendants from early childhood through higher education
• Advancing truth, racial healing, and reconciliation across communities
• Providing care and resources for elderly and infirm Descendants

Eligibility Requirements

• Be enrolled full‑time or part‑time at an accredited post‑secondary institution or continuing education program, including:
• Two‑year colleges
• Four‑year colleges and universities
• Be pursuing any major
• Hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
• Have a completed 2026–2027 FAFSA on file at their institution
• Demonstrate financial need
• U.S. citizen or permanent resident 
• Have received an official certification number confirming their status as a Descendant, issued by DTRF

How to Apply

All applicants must:

1. Confirm Lineal Descent

Visit the Descendants Truth & Reconciliation Foundation website to verify your status and obtain your certification number.

2. Submit the Scholarship Application

Once certified, applicants may complete the scholarship application through TMCF.
